Central Texas Fly Fishers Annual Banquet
On January 26, 2002 the Central Texas Fly Fishers will hold their annual b banquet at the Southside Community Center on Guadalupe Street. The banquet offers club members and their families the chance to enjoy great food and dee food and depending on who one talks to, great conversation. The fun will begin at 7PM.
The yearly banquet also serves as the hazing ritual for the new president, and as he has to plan it and hope it runs smoothly. The banquet is also the time time where we let the older, wiser, ex-president finally take his leave so that that he can enjoy other pursuits.
This year, as in years past, Fuschak's BBQ will provide the brisket, chicken chicken, sausage, potato salad, and beans. Members are asked to bring a covered covered dish or dessert.
Members are also asked to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to South Southside Community Center as they have been gracious enough to allow us use of their facility. C'mon guys and gals, don't save your cans of corn for the trout.
Some club members have volunteered to set up tables in the facility. If you would like to volunteer, the set up will begin at about 5:30 PM. Look for details on the club web page.
Finally, expect a lot of people and be prepared to talk about fly fishing.
Word from the New President 2002
My fellow club members, another year has come and gone. With it, wonderful memories of good times and friends and some memories we would soon rather forget.
As a nation, we celebrated the election of our 43rd President, George W. Bush. We witnessed the horrific attack on the "Twin Towers" on "live" TV. As a club we celebrated the speedy recovery of our good friend and fellow fly fisher, Billy Wofford from surgery. We also rejoiced on the birth of our youngest member, Audrey M. Jennings.
Thank God for all the blessings we have received and the comfort he gives us each day. So, I say to you my fellow club members that a new year brings about new changes that will enable us as a club to grow and prosper. My goals as your club President are simple, but direct: promote and protect the future of our sport, make fly fishing more of a family affair and lastly, have fun! As we start the new year, let's not forget the past so we can apply what we've learned in the future. May God bless each one of you and I thank you for believing in me. Let's go out and make it a great year.

Changes:
The Newsletter has been Drifted
Kim Heatson has made his last cast as editor for the CTFF newsletter and has drifted the responsibility to me. I was honored when he approached me , but was not sure that I wanted the responsibility. My main reasoning was, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Kim had done a great job and I was afraid that I would not be able to live up to the same standards that he had set. After about three seconds of hard thought, I realized that I would be giving Central Texas Fly Fishers news about fly fishing, its members, and all things that somehow pertain to fly fishing. "Hello!!" Why wouldn't I want to write the newsletter! The newsletter is a perfect excuse to go fly fishing and learn much more about the sport and art that consumes much of my thoughts throughout the day.
I have plans for the newsletter. I'm new at this type of thing, so like a river I will just flow with it. Throughout the year, if there are things about the newsletter you like or dislike, please let me know.
We are a worldly bunch of men and women so I would like to get continuous feedback on trips you have gone on, where you plan to go, what you saw, what you caught, etc. If you catch a guppy, I want to hear about it. If you see a yellow bellied ivory billed African sap sucker, give me a call. If you see a monkey on a tin building watching airplanes take off, well just keep that to yourself, because I don't want to know. I think that learning about each other will give the newsletter personality. I'm sure you all would agree that Central Texas Fly Fishers definitely have personality.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to write the newsletter. I look forward to providing you all with information that will make fly fishing all the more enjoyable.

P.S.
The January newsletter was later than usual. I did not realize that so much time
is needed to put something together that is up to my standards. Being as computer
illiterate as I am doesn't help either. Once I get used to my new job, the newsletter
will come out as scheduled. Be patient with me, I am still learning.
2001 was good!
As president of CTFF in 2001 I just say I enjoyed it greatly.
As I have always said we have the best club and the best people Texas has to offer. I look back and see the many times we helped the community and each other and it's just too many to list. I wish to thank everyone for the help and joy you have sent my way. I look forward to seeing the new officers take the helm and chart new courses of travel and ideas. Any member should not be afraid to think about taking on a leadership role in 2002 for the rewards are many and the memories cannot be bought.
May your fly always cause a strike.
